Rincón to the South West Roadtrip

There’s a lot to see on this small but diverse island, check out road trips that will take you to some of the best sites in Puerto Rico.

There’s a lot to see on this small but diverse island. It is big enough to make for a variety of great road trips with lots to explore, but small enough that most points of the island are just a day trip away. You could live here a lifetime and never see it all. We’ve mapped out a few road trips that will take you past some of the best sites in Puerto Rico.

Rincón to the South West

Follow along on Google maps

From Rincón to Playa Sucia beach and lighthouse is about 1.5 hours driving non-stop. For an early start stop at Ricomini Bakery which opens at 6:00 am for coffee and swiss rolls. Pack a picnic or pick up some sandwiches from Sandwich D’light which is also open early in Rincón. Both places are easy to access right off PR-115 before you head out. Bring a packed cooler for your lunch and beverages for the day.

One option is to drive straight to Playa Sucia, stopping at the salt flats for a view and exploring the lighthouse. You could easily spend the day at Playa Sucia exploring and relaxing on the beautiful beach. Be sure to pack everything you need for the day as there are no amenities nearby. The road from the salt flats to Playa Sucia is very bumpy and not suitable for cars that are close to the ground and if it has been raining you will need a 4x4.

If you get an early start to your day, you could drive back at a more leisurely pace stopping at Boqueron town for a late lunch or early dinner. It’s a lively little town with a lot of bars and restaurants. There are cute little shops for some fun souvenir shopping if you wish.

Continue on to Joyuda, another area for a leisurely drive up the coast. Lots of great dinner spots overlooking the water in this area. Take your time stopping at beaches if you need to stretch your legs.
