United Through Korean Cuisine: Unidos Korean BBQ & Ramen House Review

Check out our review of Unidos Korean BBQ & Ramen House.

The nation of Korea has made an incredible impact on pop culture within the last decade. Think of musical acts like BTS; films and shows like ‘Parasite’ and Squid Games’, or even internet trends dating all the way back to 2012 with Gangnam Style. It’s no surprise that Korea has been taking the world by storm for the last decade! Now another element has been integrated into the cultural zeitgeist: food.

Puerto Rico has always been a supporter of Asian culture and its residents. It has a sort of syncretism with Chinese immigrants when it comes to food, creating one of the best selling fast-food subcultures in the whole island. If you haven’t eaten “arroz chino” from PR then you haven’t really been here. This has been a staple for years in the restaurant game and recently small food businesses have been expanding with new ideas and concepts, whether it be anime style ramen shops or in this case Korean Ramen & Barbecue. There’s been a steady growth of Korean based restaurants on the island that promise an authentic experience with meals made from real Korean recipes. Obviously it is worth checking out to see what all the buzz was about.

There were some trending restaurant reviews floating around on social media, and one in particular was very popular. The video was professionally shot and did a great job selling the meals, making them look exquisite and exciting. It was filmed at a small restaurant named Unidos Korean BBQ & Ramen House based in Guaynabo and after checking out the restaurant's website and social media pages, it was time to venture towards the trendy establishment. The place was full, leaving an impression that customers must make a reservation to get in. It has a quaint and cozy environment, decorated with neon light signs and warm Edison bulbs dangling from the roof, that makes the ambience feel welcoming. The musical playlist that was on, was packed with different tunes like Korean Trap and ballads, making the setting feel modern, varied and fun.

The menu options were dazzling with a variety of dishes; from Vegetable & Bulgogi Ramen, Jajangmyeon (a Korean noodle dish topped with chunjang sauce, vegetables and diced meat), and Kimbap (cooked rice and vegetables, fish and meat rolled up in gim). The restaurant also has vegan friendly options and all meals are prepared fresh and in the moment. The server suggested a variety of Asian drinks and Korean sodas. The service was friendly, quick and the food was oh so good! It lived up to the hype, being very filling and satisfying enough that dessert wasn’t ordered. You’ll definitely get bang for your buck with the quantity of food per dish.

Unidos Korean BBQ & Ramen House is located at 204 Av. Esmeralda, Guaynabo, 00969. You can check out their menu for yourself and contact them at unidoskoreanbbq.com or on instagram @unidoskoreanbbq. If you can’t arrive to the locale you can always Uber Eats or Doordash their selections, and enjoy right at home. Make sure to check it out for your next hot date, you can’t miss it!
