The Old Castle Bar and Grill

We went here last night with my husband and some friends, and unfortunately, the experience left a really bad impression. Where I come from, it’s customary to tip for drinks. My husband is a Spanish speaker, while I am not. He ordered our first round of three drinks from the bartender and specifically told her he wanted to include a tip. He tipped her $7. Later, while my husband was talking with our friends, I went up to the bar to order our second round. When the bartender rang me up, I also told her that I wanted to include a tip. Instead of giving me the option to choose the tip amount, she handed me the payment screen showing a total charge of $30. That immediately seemed high to me, so I went back and asked my husband how much he had been charged before tip for the exact same three drinks during the first round. His total was only $15. The fact that the second round was $30 for the same three drinks, without me being given the opportunity to choose the tip amount, is very concerning. Since my husband speaks Spanish and I do not, I also wonder if the language difference played a role in what happened. As the owner or manager, you should be aware of what is happening with your customers’ charges and look into this situation. We are staying right up the street, but unfortunately, after this experience, we will not be coming back.

We ended up there because of car trouble, but thank goodness. They were so kind to us, the food was delicious, and the staff were incredibly friendly. 100% recommended.
