Beautiful place, and the food was phenomenal. I loved the concept of having an open kitchen in the dining area.
Verde Mesa is definitely a place with character, and the first thing that caught my attention was the design and interior. Everything feels thoughtfully put together and done with great taste. One detail I especially loved was right at the entrance. Instead of a typical hostess stand, there is a huge vintage-style dresser filled with all kinds of beautiful dishes and tableware. None of the pieces seem to match, yet somehow they work perfectly together. Some of them even look like they could have been collected from different corners of the world. It’s a small detail, but it fits the atmosphere and personality of the restaurant incredibly well. One of the biggest surprises of the evening was the Tomato Ceviche. Such an unusual and interesting dish! The best way I can describe it is like eating an incredibly fresh tomato-and-cucumber salad made with vegetables that were picked straight from the garden — except there is no cucumber. Instead, that refreshing, watery crunch you would normally get from cucumber is replaced by this light, airy and incredibly fresh sauce created by the chef. It was unexpected, refreshing, and probably one of the most memorable things we tried. Unfortunately, the hot dishes didn’t impress us nearly as much. We ordered the filet mignon and the kofta. The kofta as a whole was actually pretty good — I liked the sauce, the beans, and how all the components worked together. The issue was with the meat patties themselves, which had a slightly rubbery texture. The filet mignon was made with good-quality meat, but there was a major problem with the temperature. We specifically ordered it medium well, but what arrived was much closer to medium rare. You can clearly see the difference in the photo. Flavor-wise, neither of the hot dishes really gave us anything particularly memorable. I would probably rate the mains somewhere between 3 and 4 out of 5. Another issue was the wait. It took around an hour for our hot dishes to arrive. The restaurant was completely packed, and it was also extremely hot inside. I understand that a full restaurant can put a lot of pressure on the kitchen and service, and that may have contributed to the long wait and timing issues, but it definitely affected the overall experience. Overall, Verde Mesa is a beautiful and very distinctive restaurant with a lot of personality. The interior, attention to detail, and especially the Tomato Ceviche made a strong impression on me. The hot dishes and the long wait, however, left some room for improvement. There is clearly a lot to like about this place, but based on this particular visit, the experience was a bit uneven.
