El Vagón Review

El Vagón started as a food truck offering tacos and more in 2011 and has expanded to become a local favorite. Check out our review of this popular spot!

Puerto Rico has always had a culture of chinchorreo, which is a hangout at a local business where people get together to eat and drink in an outdoor environment, accompanied by good music and friends. Top that off with the food truck craze that has become a standard in the last 15 years on the island, and chinchorreo can be done pretty much everywhere.

Back in 2011, a small food truck named El Vagón broke onto the scene in the middle of Santurce. Over time, this small restaurant truck captured many clients that sponsored the expansion of the company, turning it into a chain of restaurants in the San Juan area where El Vagón started establishing new franchises; opening locations at various towns including Santurce, Dorado, Juncos, Luquillo, Hato Rey, and Guaynabo. Each of their locations has its own essence, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that captivates those who visit for the first time.

Upon entering El Vagón in Dorado, diners are immediately struck by the sleek and stylish décor of the restaurant. The walls are adorned with colorful murals and the seating is comfortable and modern. The open kitchen allows diners to watch as the chefs prepare their meals, adding to the overall atmosphere. One of the standout features of El Vagón is its menu, which offers a wide variety of dishes inspired by international cuisine. From small plates and tapas to larger entrés, there is something to satisfy every taste. Standouts on the menu include the crispy calamari and the seared ahi tuna, both of which are prepared with a unique twist that sets them apart from traditional versions of these dishes.

The restaurant also offers a selection of craft cocktails and an extensive wine list to complement the meals. Their Tex-Mex menu is varied and delicious, specializing in a variety of fish tacos and nachos de ceviche which you cannot miss. They also offer customers a wide variety of beers and drinks such as the traditional margarita and an original Vagón Mojito. In addition to the food, El Vagón is known for its impeccable service, with a staff that are knowledgeable of the menu and are happy to make recommendations based on diners' preferences. They are also attentive to any special requests or dietary restrictions, making the dining experience at El Vagón enjoyable for everyone. One of the things that sets it apart from other restaurants, especially in certain locations like in Dorado, is its use of live music and outdoor seating to take advantage of Puerto Rico's glorious climate.

El Vagón is a must-visit restaurant for anyone looking for a fashionable and trendy dining experience, whether you’re looking for a family dinner or a night out with friends for drinks and food. There’s something unique at every Vagón location, so you can visit each one and get a new experience with the same excellent food and service!
