Oct 2026 I was in Puerto Rico with some friends staying with a friend who is from the island. It's our first visit to the island for an extended stay. While there are many places to visit on the island, we ended up going to El Yunque Rainforest for a day. It is best to drive up to the Visitor Center and purchased tickets to enter the park for the day. The tickets run about $10 per person. There are several informative things to see at the Visitor Center, as well as 2 love parrots, and a small theater. There are also some interactive exhibits for your children and adults to work through too. As for the park, once you leave the Visitor Center, you'll go enter thru the park gate and will be told that the gates close at 5 PM. You can get a trail map either at the Visitor Center or at the park gate. Just make sure you've got good boots or shoes on that you don't mind getting muddy, and have a rain pancho or geer because there usually is a light shower, and also packe some water and snacks. Just know, some trails are nice and easy to walk and flat and other trails can be challenging up-and-down and uneven surfaces. So, just know your own abilities and make sure you don't slip and fall. Overall, we had a good time. I don't know the best time of the year to go, but the time we went in the early October time frame; it was a cool day while humid, and the park wasn't that crowded. This is probably because it's off-season and children are in school. I hope you decided to visit one of these large parks and have fun. If you own an national park pass, I believe you may be able to get into this park with that pass without any fees, or at least have a reduced fee.

Thank you to the staff that welcomed us and provided some information that helped us to enjoy our trip to the forest itself

Nice place for an initial stop at the rain forest. It is also nice place to rest. There are restrooms and restaurants. There is a little trail with nice views.
