Island Reef Tours

I booked this for my wife, myself and 4 children. Sergio was amazing. Both captains really. They really worked hard to make this special for us. I would book again in a heart beat. The ride, the FOOD….Yummy. All of it was just above and beyond what I expected. The beach was spectacular. Thank you so much Island reef tours.

Before I start—because I know most people won’t read the full review—Ellen (part-owner) has been seen on Facebook asking “review for review on Google?” See the attached for yourself… Quite possibly the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Imagine paying $350 for a captain, only to watch your captain and his mate, Jose Onofre and Sergio Martinez, help themselves to your food and drink your beer. When we disputed this with part-owner Ellen Mintzer, she dismissed it as mere “allegations” and refused to take any action. Unfortunately we didn’t get video of them specifically doing it… but funny enough, the video I’ve attached is the same one (just shortened) already posted in the Google reviews here—showing a staff member eating food (most likely from the tray behind him) and another at the back of the boat with a Medalla in his hand. We had the exact same issue with Jose and Sergio: they cut up our fruit and helped themselves, along with a couple of beers. The captain and mate do not serve you whatsoever. Lunch is not provided—only the finger food Ellen specifically lists. For a group of 12 we were given 24 beers… now subtract however many they drank themselves. An hour was spent just docking the damn boat (talk about a captain). And Sergio was chain smoking from the start, throwing his butts into the ocean. See the attached from another review posted on TripAdvisor. And Ellen wants to call these “serious allegations”?? Luckily, all of us made the most of it. It was the perfect group of guys to go with. Just unfortunate that this place lives by the motto of overpromising and underdelivering—along with the type of crews they hire. Take a look for yourself on TripAdvisor, because clearly some of those 5-star reviews are fabricated.

We booked a private charter for 8 guests out of Fajardo, and the tour itself was great. The problem came after. I accidentally overpaid by $200 when sending the balance (sent the deposit twice via Wise). I emailed Ellen the same day with a payment link to make the refund easy. She had been incredibly responsive leading up to the trip, but once it was over, I never heard back. I followed up multiple times over two weeks and got nothing. Would have been a 5-star review if they had just handled the refund. The tour was that good. But going silent on a customer who's owed money isn't okay.
