Sea Ventures Dive and Snorkel

Luis and Jill are top notch! Luis did my open water certification this week and I couldn't have had a better instructor! The staff is fun and very helpful. Best place to go for diving with a great group of people!

NOTE - CRITICAL REVIEW/STORY TLDR - If you're a complete beginner and you go here, make sure you stick with a beginner-friendly instructor and diving with other beginners (if possible). DO NOT go with an instructor that has other divers with more experience than you, you WILL hold them back, as I did. First thing, I am a complete beginner, no experience, and took a big leap with this, so that's on me. But this place was not very "beginner-friendly" based off my experience, but could be different depending on who you're with, but in this case, it was mostly certified divers, and I had an unfortunate experience. (Note: the only beginners were me (21), my brother (31), and an 11-year old kid) Most of the staff were very kind, Luis explained the important stuff and basics very well, and Carol(e) was also very kind and was definitely the more beginner-friendly instructor. At first, she taught me the basics and was very patient with me, and I got comfortable very quickly, so I thank her for that. Though after going into the second round, the 11-year old kid we were with understandably needed more attention from Carol(e), so she put me with another instructor. And this is unfortunately where I didn't get to experience what I could have (only got to see some fish and a couple of sea-turtles from a distance, which was still cool). This new instructor seemed to be more catered towards divers with a bit more experience, maybe between intermediate and advanced. So once I jumped in the water, we got straight to it (Note: we were with 2 other divers with much more experience, maybe slightly above intermediate). So once we got near the bottom, we went off. For a short bit I was alright, but I couldn't keep up with the instructor and other divers in terms of speed, so I was lagging behind a bit. And then I started floating back up, and I wasn't sure why. The instructor kept telling me "keep your feet down!" which I still don't fully understand what he meant (I think he wanted me to keep them still based off what one of the other staff members told me, but still unsure, and I don't know how it was going to help me stay down). I went down for the second time, and it happened again. so he came back up to the surface to try and explain to me, but my ears kept going in and out of the water, so I didn't understand a single thing he said. It inevitably happened again, he got blatantly irritated with me, and he said if it happens again, I'm going back to the boat, and I knew immediately that I was DEFINITELY going back to the boat 🤣. So it inevitably happened, it was a bit of a long swim back, and I was back on the boat. From the instructors perspective, I get it, I wasn't the right person for him to be with as a complete beginner and interrupting the experience of the other divers, and unfortunately, that was the problem. So with that, I put it in no less of a way that I DID NOT get my money's worth, but it was a great learning experience. Besides that, this is definitely a great place to go for more experienced divers, so don't think based off this review that you should never go here, I just had an unfortunate experience as a complete beginner. Lastly, I thank Carol(e) for teaching me so I can have the confidence to come back to this activity whenever the time is right.
