Finca Cialitos

Located on Calle San Francisco, this shop offers its own coffee grain, which they also sell and offer through a subscription service. If you are looking for a place to sit down and chat with friends or read a book over coffee, look no further. When walking by, Finca Cialitos looks small on the outside, however inside it is spacious, the furniture is well laid out and comfortable and there are paintings and locally handcrafted pieces to admire. The quiet atmosphere and attentive staff are worth the visit when looking for a break from walking around town. Cafe Cola’o

Down by the ferry harbor of Old San Juan, Cafe Cola’o is considered to be the first official coffee shop in Puerto Rico. The staff is always friendly and their latte art is unique. The inside is small yet eye-catching, with nice mural paintings and Caribbean decor. The small interior is balanced with tables outside and a nice view of the sea, with sights of ferries and cruise ships. Perfect destination to get a local brew before exploring the rest of the town.

Hacienda Isabel Coffee Boutique

As the name suggests, this particular shop has a boutique aesthetic. Hacienda Isabel offers such a unique experience, you will feel as if you are visiting a nice “abuelita’s” home, to share coffee in her living room. The coffee is exquisite and they offer a variety of food. They even have spaces that are a bit more secluded, making the service feel more personal. This coffee boutique is perfect for a small family brunch or a quiet spot to rest from the hot sun in a cozy environment. Their coffee is locally grown at their hacienda in Utuado, Puerto Rico and is sold at location.

Café 4 Estaciones

Open Monday to Thursday and weekends from 6am to 1am.

Open until late hours, this small kiosk has you covered when looking for a decent cup of joe. If you are in the mood for a late-night snack, Café 4 Estaciones offers baked goods, mallorcas and empanadas. They have a sitting area out in the open under a shade with plants, bird houses and sculptures that make for a nice ambiance and pretty pictures, especially at night.

Santurce & Condado

Outside, this particular venue looks like a cafeteria but once inside you will find a lovely restaurant with baristas that deliver great service on their coffee menu as well. Their specialty however, is brunch, and they have a great selection with vegetarian options. They have another location in Calle Loíza, which is a street with many restaurants on the border of Santurce and Condado.

Cafe Hacienda San Pedro

Location: 318 Avenida José de Diego, San Juan, PR 00923

Open Monday to Friday from 7am to 5:15pm, Saturdays 8am to 4pm and Sundays from 10am to 3pm.

Cafe Hacienda San Pedro has three locations: one in Santurce, another in Hato Rey and yet another shop at their hacienda in Jayuya, Puerto Rico where they grow their own coffee. The shop in Santurce is small, but their service and product are excellent. Artisanal days are common here, you might come in to find hand-crafted soaps, earrings, and even paintings to purchase while you enjoy your visit. An added bonus is that it is located very close to the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico.

Café con Cé

Location: 1765 C. Loíza, San Juan, PR 00911

With a very unique concept, this is another must-visit shop on Calle LoÍza. It is another indoors/outdoors place with a twist. The inside is a well-decorated trailer while the outside is an open space with a lovely sitting area. Baristas recommend it for its quality and experience. 

Barista Squared

Location: 1102 Magdalena Ave, San Juan, PR 00907

Open Monday to Friday from 7am to 3pm and Saturdays open from 8am to 2pm.

Barista Squared has beautiful decor inside, and is steps away from major hotels and beaches in the Condado area. They have great reviews on food and knowledge of pouring methods, and the staff is friendly and service oriented. They have a second location in Hato Rey.

La Isla

If you ever want the unique experience of visiting a shop where the bean is roasted on-site, look no further. Café 2150 is special, the location has a variety of spaces to enjoy your beverage of choice. It is located in the old town area of Bayamón, next to the train station. When entering you'll see an inviting patio and an indoor shop where friendly baristas will take your order while you take a break from the heat. Continuing down the hallway, you'll find a salon with machinery that on some occasions will roast coffee beans as you watch. The aroma of this process alone is worth the visit. They have yet another indoor space to lounge, enjoy a book and feel inspired, which is the main draw of this location. For photographers, students and other creatives this is your place to go wild, the staff welcomes it wholeheartedly.

Tazón Coffee Shop

This small shop doubles as a school for all who want to get certified as baristas. Special workshops are also offered for those who wish to fine tune their latte art, technique and creativity. Something unique to this particular shop is that there are two menus, a food and beverage menu, and a Tazón menu. The Tazón menu is an assortment of recipes that several baristas have come up with at the shop through the years. Some baristas have managed to submit more than two adventurous creations to the menu and they are highlighted by the name “Tazón (name of barista)”, to be distinguished from the standard offerings. The space is cozy and mostly quiet, perfect for small meetings or brunch.
